Stolen military explosive devices found in residence at The Villages, deputies say

Homes were evacuated in The Villages on Tuesday after explosive devices were reported, according to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said they received a complaint of what appeared to be explosive devices in a home.

Lake County’s Bomb Squad responded to assist investigators and confirmed the explosive devices had been stolen from the military.

Out of an abundance of caution, deputies said homes were evacuated until the items were safely removed. The scene is now clear of any explosives, deputies say.
