Ashland [OR] man caught after device explodes in parked car on Morton Street

Police arrested a man after an explosive device went off inside a parked car early March 25.

Ashland police, Ashland Fire & Rescue and Talent police responded to the 300 block of Morton around 4:43 a.m. after reports of a loud explosion. Officers found that someone set off an explosive device inside an unoccupied vehicle.

Officers spotted what looked like another explosive device in the car. Police secured the area and told neighbors to shelter in place. Bomb disposal techs from the Oregon State Police arrived and confirmed there was no further threat.

Evidence at the scene pointed to a known person who was already wanted by Medford police on other charges. Detectives quickly found the man at a home in the 100 block of Fork Street in Ashland and arrested him.

Police arrested Michael Scott Beugli, 32, of Ashland. Beugli was charged with arson, unlawful possession of a destructive device, unlawful manufacture of a destructive device, criminal mischief, reckless endangering and reckless burning. He was booked into the Jackson County Jail.
