Blast at Syracuse building caused by explosive placed in cupcake vending machine, owner says

An explosion which rocked a multi-tenant office building in Syracuse Friday was caused by an explosive placed in a vending machine, according to the machine’s owner.

The vending machine in the lobby of the building at 404 Oak St. sells cupcakes and other baked goods.

Kadesha Carter, 31, who owns the vending machine, told syracuse.com | The Post-Standard at the scene that she had been told someone had placed an explosive inside. She was interviewed by Syracuse police officers at the scene.

Carter owns Cupcakes R Me, a business that uses vending machines to sell her baked goods in the Syracuse area. She started her business in 2022 with the vending machine in the Oak Street building.

Carter on Friday night shared photos of the scene on her Facebook page that showed a badly damaged pink vending machine. She posted that someone had placed an explosive in the machine, that there was a witness and video evidence and that police were tracking the person down.
