Florida man sentenced for setting Michigan State Police cruisers on fire

The 41-year-old Florida man charged after he vandalized multiple police cruisers in 2023 was sentenced Tuesday.

James Itani, 41, was sentenced in Chippewa County Circuit Court on Tuesday. Itani was arrested in September 2023 and was charged with terrorism, third-degree arson and several counts of assault with intent to murder. This is after Itani set fire to multiple police cruisers at the Michigan State Police Sault Ste. Marie post.

As part of a plea deal, he pleaded no contest to the terrorism and assault with intent to murder charges, with the remaining charges being dismissed as per the agreement.

Itani was sentenced to a minimum of 25 years to a maximum of 40 years in prison for both the terrorism and assault charges, and 5 to 10 years for the third-degree arson charge.
