Firefighters attacked by man with machete while responding to Beaufort County hotel fire
Beaufort/Port Royal fire crews were attacked by a man with a machete while responding to a call at a hotel.
Just after 8 a.m. Monday, the City of Beaufort/Town of Port Royal Fire Department was called to a hotel for a fire alarm, which was upgraded to a structure fire according to the department.
Engine Company 4 arrived on scene and entered a hotel room where the fire was located. When firefighters entered, they were attacked by a man armed with a machete.
The department said crews stayed safe. All firefighters are okay and were evaluated by Beaufort County EMS on scene.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division was notified and is investigating.
The fire department thanked Beaufort Police for their quick work in apprehending the armed man.
