SLED releases video of fiery ambush against Greenville officer
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) said it is investigating after an officer was hurt in a fiery ambush in Greenville.
Officials said ambush took place at the Greenville County Law Enforcement Center (LEC) around 1:49 a.m. on Sunday.
According to SLED, the suspect 42-year-old David William Lane drove up next to an officer sitting in a patrol car and fired what investigators believe to be incendiary rounds, ‘designed to inflict maximum damage.’
The officer was hurt and taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital for his injuries. He has since been released and is recovering at home with his family.
Greenville County Sheriff Hobart Lewis said following the ambush, law enforcement was able to find the suspect’s vehicle on Roper Mountain Road and a brief chase began.
