12-year-old charged in threats of violence at Albany middle school
A 12-year-old student was arrested Sunday afternoon following threats of violence at Stephen and Harriet Myers Middle School.
At around 6:00 p.m. Saturday, officers from the Albany Police Department were notified of a threat received via a messaging platform threatening to shoot up Stephen and Harriet Myers Middle School on Monday, February 23.
At the time of the report, police conducted a safety check of Stephen and Harriet Myers Middle School, and it was determined to be safe.
Further investigation by members of the Albany Police Department resulted in the identification and arrest of the student Sunday afternoon. It was determined that the 12-year-old sent the threats through Snapchat messaging.
