Man arrested over online plot to attack kindergartens with machete

The 29‑year‑old, identified as Marcin G. under Polish privacy laws, shared plans for a machete attack on kindergartens in the western city of Poznań on one of the internet platforms, Poland’s Central Bureau for Combating Cybercrime (CBZC) said in a statement on Wednesday.

He also created an online poll asking users to vote on which of three local kindergartens should be targeted.

In a separate post, investigators said, the man explained his motives and wrote that he intended to take his own life after carrying out the attack.

The 29‑year‑old was detained at his apartment in Poznań just hours after the posts appeared.

During a search of the property, officers recovered a machete, psychotropic substances and computer equipment allegedly used to publish the threats.

Prosecutors charged the man with preparing to commit murder, an offense punishable by up to 15 years in prison. Marcin G. admitted to the charge during questioning.

“He explained that his motive was a desire to gain attention and make himself noticed,” Łukasz Wawrzyniak, spokesperson for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Poznań, was quoted as saying by Polish news agency PAP.
