Suspect in NSB bridge threat linked to prior extremist probe

An Edgewater man who threatened to destroy a New Smyrna Beach bridge was previously a target of an FBI investigation over racist and violent statements, and is believed to hold “incel” views, according to police reports.

Logan Cimms, 20, made the bridge threats in a Snapchat conversation, where he referred to the arrest of a friend. According to a police report, he ended the exchange by stating, “The feds (expletive) up taking down Lucas.”

After working with the FBI and other law enforcement officials, the New Smyrna Beach Police Department arrested Cimms July 23. He was charged with making a written threat to commit an act of terrorism, a second-degree felony. He was still in the Volusia County jail as of July 25.

Authorities believe Cimms was referring to Lucas Nevcherlian, 19, whom authorities also believe holds incel views, in his Snapchat exchange. Nevcherlian was arrested Oct. 30 in a separate case on a charge written threats to kill/do bodily injury/conduct a mass shooting or act of terrorism. He pled not guilty to the charge. A message to Nevcherlian’s attorney wasn’t immediately returned on July 25. Nevcherlian’s bond was set at $10,000. He was released on Oct. 31.
