Raytown man faces felony charges after placing ‘explosive device’ on police officer’s car

A Raytown man is facing two felony charges after placing an explosive device near a police officer.

The Jackson County Prosecutor’s office says John Horton Jr. walked up to a Raytown police officer Friday afternoon and placed an explosive device on a police officer’s car bumper.

Prosecutors say it was a cylinder-like object wrapped in plastic, and the officer could see a red fuse.

Kansas City, Missouri’s Police Department’s bomb squad defused the device.

Horton’s charges are assault in the 1st degree and unlawful possession of an explosive weapon.
