5 plead guilty to charges in connection with July ‘ambush’ of North Texas ICE facility
Five pleaded guilty in federal court Wednesday to charges in connection with the July “ambush” of a North Texas ICE detention facility.
Officers were called to the Prairieland Detention Center in Alvarado, about 30 miles south of Fort Worth, on July 4 about a group of people wearing all black who shot fireworks toward the center, officials said. An Alvarado police officer who responded to the scene was shot in the neck, taken to an area hospital, treated, and released. No employees at the detention center were hurt, officials say.
Seth Sikes, 22, Nathan Baumann, 20, Joy Gibson, 30, Lynette Sharp, 57, and John Thomas, 32, pleaded guilty Wednesday to a single charge each of providing material support to terrorists in connection with the incident. Their sentencing is set for March 12. They face a maximum sentence of up to 15 years in federal prison followed by three years of supervised release.
