Ex-Waterbury firefighter threatened to ‘light up’ left-wing officials, shoot police, warrants show

A former Waterbury fire lieutenant sent a number of threatening emails and phone calls to the mayor and city leaders, including one email that he will “light up the left-wing lunatics in the city of Waterbury” and a phone call where he threatened to shoot a police officer, according to his arrest warrant.

Over the years, Waterbury police warned Thomas Eccleston, 62, to stop any form of communication to the mayor and other city leaders following his 2018 termination from the city and his lawsuit against the city. However, police said, Eccleston “blatantly disregarded” those warnings and in recent weeks, the communications ratcheted up.
