Driver crashes into Chabad Lubavitch Headquarters in Brooklyn: NYPD

A man drove his vehicle into the Chabad Lubavitch Headquarters in Brooklyn on Wednesday, and authorities are investigating it as a hate crime, police said late that night.

The crash took place around 8:46 p.m. on Eastern Parkway in the Crown Heights section of the borough.

A 2012 Honda Accord sedan was found mounted on the sidewalk at the scene, which struck the building, according to officials. The driver struck the rear door of the building once, and then reversed the car in order to ram the door a second time, NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch shared at a press conference on Wednesday.

Law enforcement sources told News 4 that a person is in custody, and that the vehicle at the scene had New Jersey plates.
