Man killed by police on I-15 previously convicted for terrorism threats, said he would ‘kill Americans and USA’
The man shot and killed by police on Northbound I-15 on March 27 previously pleaded guilty to threats of terrorism and threatened to ‘kill Americans.”
On March 27, shortly before 5:00 p.m. an individual rear ended a Utah Highway Patrol (UHP) vehicle near 4500 S on northbound I-15. That individual, later identified as 29-year-old Sayed Mousavi, proceeded around the scene and continued on the freeway.
The UHP trooper activated his emergency lights, and Mousavi stopped his vehicle in the middle of I-15 around 3300 S, proceeding to exit his vehicle and brandish a knife. From there, the trooper discharged his firearm and shot Mousavi.
Mousavi was pronounced dead on scene. The UHP trooper, who was uninjured, was placed on administrative leave per standard protocol. An officer-involved critical incident (OICI) Protocol Team is investigating the incident.
Court records reveal that Mousavi has a criminal history and previously pleaded guilty to threats of terrorism in a 2024 case.
