Suspect, victim details emerge in deadly San Diego Islamic Center shooting
One of the three victims shot and killed at the Islamic Center in San Diego Monday, a security guard and father of eight young kids, is being hailed by first responders and close friends as a hero.
The deadly incident occurred around 11:40 a.m. when two teenage gunmen dressed in camouflage reportedly stormed the mosque and opened fire, killing Amin Abdullah and two other staff members, one who worked in the center’s food store and a teacher.
Police swarmed the complex, which includes a school, and discovered the three victims.
The alleged shooters, identified in multiple media reports as 17-year-old Cain Clark and 18-year-old Caleb Velasquez, allegedly fired at a landscaper as well, though that person survived. The pair were eventually found dead in a vehicle several blocks from the scene, at least one of them who had apparently taken their own life with a fatal gunshot.
