US Capitol police report increase in threats for third year

The United States Capitol Police (USCP) reported a significant rise in threat assessment cases for the third consecutive year, with 14,938 incidents investigated in 2025.

This marks a continued upward trend from previous years, with 9,474 cases in 2024 and 8,008 in 2023.

The Threat Assessment Section (TAS) of the USCP has been actively addressing concerning statements, behaviors, and communications directed at Members of Congress, their families, staff, and the Capitol Complex.

U.S. Capitol Police Chief Michael Sullivan emphasized the importance of enhanced security measures, stating, “While security on Capitol Grounds has already improved, we have been strengthening our partnerships with law enforcement agencies across the country to keep the Members of Congress safe when they are away from Capitol Hill.”
