Asheville police cars ‘completely destroyed’ by suspected arson; seeking public’s help

After two marked Asheville Police Department vehicles were set on fire the morning of Aug. 14, APD is asking for the public’s help in finding who set the cars ablaze.

The Asheville Fire Department responded to the scene and extinguished two police cars that had been set on fire near block 30 of Lynndale Avenue in West Asheville, according to an Aug. 14 news release from APD.

The vehicles were unoccupied but “completely destroyed” by the flames, according to the news release.

“APD investigators are working with the Asheville Fire Marshalls Office to determine what happened and find those responsible,” APD spokesperson Samantha Booth said in the news release.

“There’s no information that we have other than they do believe it was arson and it is under investigation,” Asheville Fire Department spokesperson Kelley Klope told the Citizen Times Aug. 14. “A lot of people have Ring doorbell videos, or they may have seen something. I have not been made aware that they have any suspects in mind necessarily. APD just asked the community because those things are out there, and you never know.”
